Doilies about doilies
An acquaintance passed on some vintage doilies to me a few years ago. Learning about the cultural history of this textile, I embroidered two of them with notes from my research. Doilies were extremely popular around the turn of the 20th century. They were considered a mark of elegance, and a necessity to protect the back of sofas from men’s hair oil.
