Embroidered Vintage Handkerchief

Using a donated vintage hankie, I embroidered two photos of my Mom. In the foreground is a photo of her busting a pose. In the background, an artistic interpretation of her church-going outfit, with fox stole and feathered hat. The flowers are hyacinths, one of her favorites.

Shout out to Joetta Maue for her excellent instruction during my week at Arrowmont.

Detail of front (left) and back. I added some vintage lace to the back to create some dimensionality to the dress without overwhelming the delicacy of the stitching on the front.

Early stage of transferring the photos to fabric, using a disappearing fabric marker.
